USB M-Bus level converter

NVS Converter USB

In stock

The shortest path from a laptop to a wired M-Bus line. The converter powers the bus, meters answer with their telegram, the software reads it. On commissioning day you see which meters respond and which do not — the health of the line is known before any gateway is installed.

What it does

Proof the line works

Because the converter powers the bus, a scan reports the true state of the line. Short circuits, broken ends and miswired meters surface on the first scan.

Address scanning

Primary and secondary address scans run on site, so which serial number belongs to which unit is recorded from the start.

One cable at commissioning

No separate power brick to carry. The laptop's USB port powers both the converter and the line.

Brand independent

Any meter producing a standard M-Bus telegram is read; the manufacturer's own software is not needed.

Suited to

  • Commissioning a line on a new project
  • Diagnosing an unread-meter complaint on site
  • Building a meter inventory with serial numbers
  • Bench-testing a small number of meters

Not suited to

  • Permanent remote reading — use a Wi-Fi or cellular gateway instead
  • Unattended operation; the converter does not collect data on its own
  • Wireless (wM-Bus) meters — an RF handheld terminal is needed

Questions

How many meters can it read?

A USB-powered converter carries 3 standard M-Bus unit loads — in practice a handful of meters on a short line. For a whole block, use an externally powered Wi-Fi or cellular gateway.

Do I need to install a driver?

Current Windows versions detect the device as a virtual COM port on their own. If it is not detected, the driver package is on the download page.

My meters are from different brands — will it work?

Reading is the job of the M-Bus standard, not the meter brand. Heat, hot water and cold water meters and heat cost allocators producing EN 13757 telegrams are read regardless of brand.

Can I also configure meters with it?

Yes. On supported devices the NovuSoft meter tools write index, date and period settings, and every write is read back for verification.
